Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem, NH will host its annual John P. Ganley - St. Patrick’s Day Memorial Award Luncheon on Friday, March 17th, 2017. This is the 28th year that the Club has held the luncheon in memory of former Salem Police Chief John P. Ganley. 

Doors open at 11:00am for refreshments and the program gets underway at noon. A meal of corned beef and cabbage will be served followed by the presentation of the John P. Ganley Community Service Award. The “Singing State Trooper”, (now retired) Dan Clark, will perform favorite Irish music as well as the New Hampshire Police Association Pipes & Drums. This year’s “Pot of Gold” Sponsor is Pentucket Bank. Other sponsorships include our ”Shamrock” Sponsor- Salem Co-operative Bank and our “Claddagh” Sponsor is Haverhill Bank.
The Chief John P. Ganley Community Service Award is presented to an individual “who has exhibited concern, involvement, and leadership in the community of Salem; while providing inspiration to others, through his or her dedication, integrity, and courage in the manner exemplified by Chief John P. Ganley during his life on earth.” Chief Ganley passed away in March of 1989 but his commitment to the community is carried forward and honored each year on St. Patrick’s Day.
This Year's Honoree
Howard "Howie" Glynn
After spending several summers on Arlington Pond, Howie and his wife Beverly moved the family to Salem in 1972 and founded B&H Oil Company & Dockside Marina, and in 1989 they started their successful chain of Howie Glynn & Sons Convenience Stores.
Soon after moving to Salem, Howie formed the Arlington Pond Protective Association and began his many years of serving his community on many levels. He has served Salem as a Selectman, as a member of the Community Development Advisory Committee (30 years), as a member of the Depot Train Station Renovation Committee and Hose House #2 Renovation Committee. He has served as the President for many area organizations and clubs including the Salem Historical Society, the North Salem PTA, the Salem Contractors Association and the Arlington Pond Protective Association.

Howie has been a true leader in the Salem community for 45 years. His involvement with the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem has been at every level. He worked with a group to build the first Club field, has been a member of the Board of Directors, was inducted onto the Board of Governors, gave substantially to the Club Capital Campaign in 2003, has worked the Club Bingo and continues to support the Club through donations to their annual auction.
Howie has been a great role model for many including his family. His children and grandchildren have been taught the importance of community service and good customer service. Many family members are involved in the family businesses as well as the organizations that he supports.

Over the years, Howie has been given many accolades including the Chamber's Bill Brown Award, the SBGC Richard P. McCoy Award and a commendation from the Water Task Force through the Greater Salem Chamber of Commerce. He has managed Salem Little League as well coached for both Salem and Haverhill, MA.
Howie's proudest accomplishments include the Glynn's family businesses and his families' commitment to making Salem a great place to live. Howie and Beverly have four children, Christine, Marion, Ralph and Howie, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
