Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem, NH will host its annual John P. Ganley - St. Patrick’s Day Memorial Award Luncheon on Friday, March 17th, 2017. This is the 28th year that the Club has held the luncheon in memory of former Salem Police Chief John P. Ganley. 

Doors open at 11:00am for refreshments and the program gets underway at noon. A meal of corned beef and cabbage will be served followed by the presentation of the John P. Ganley Community Service Award. The “Singing State Trooper”, (now retired) Dan Clark, will perform favorite Irish music as well as the New Hampshire Police Association Pipes & Drums. This year’s “Pot of Gold” Sponsor is Pentucket Bank. Other sponsorships include our ”Shamrock” Sponsor- Salem Co-operative Bank and our “Claddagh” Sponsor is Haverhill Bank.
The Chief John P. Ganley Community Service Award is presented to an individual “who has exhibited concern, involvement, and leadership in the community of Salem; while providing inspiration to others, through his or her dedication, integrity, and courage in the manner exemplified by Chief John P. Ganley during his life on earth.” Chief Ganley passed away in March of 1989 but his commitment to the community is carried forward and honored each year on St. Patrick’s Day.

The Ganley Luncheon Committee is currently accepting nominations for this year’s award through 2/10/17. Nominees should work or reside in the community of Salem. Last year’s honoree was David C. Thompson, Jr. David exemplified the spirit of community envisioned by John and Marguerite Ganley. David has been involved in many clubs and organizations (Knights of Columbus, Salem Christmas Fund, Saint Mary & Joseph Parish, Greater Salem Caregivers, Salem Haven, and the Senior Center) as well as serving our country for 6 years as a US Marine and 17 ½ years in the Army Reserves. This is only a sampling of the ways Dave gives back to the Salem community. He is truly an inspiration to all who have the pleasure of knowing him.
