Athletic Program
Any child who signs up for any of these activities must be or
become a member of the Boys & Girls Club of Salem. The membership
fee is $30 per year.

AFTER SCHOOL ATHLETICS
The after-school athletic
program runs every day from 2:15-6:00pm. It is designed to
provide fun and fitness benefits through activities and equipment
that are age appropriate. Equal participation, sportsmanship
and fair play is stressed during all activities. The gym is
monitored by staff during all open hours. Members receive
instruction and participate in both traditional sports and new
activities. Some traditional sports include basketball, soccer,
floor hockey, bombardment, wiffleball, and flag football. New activities are introduced every Thursday. These games target specific age groups ranging from 6-12 years old. Games include King Ball, Corners, Speed Ball, and Guard the Pin.

Fall Leagues and Programs
Floor Hockey
Open to members ages 6-12. Games are played on Saturday afternoons starting
September 27th, 2008 running 8 weeks. Practices are held Tues. & Thurs. nights.
Helmets, sticks, and goalie equipment are supplied by the club. Participants
may bring their own equipment. Shinguards are mandatory!
Collegiate League - Grades 1-3: No Evaluation
Professional League - Grades 4-6: Evaluation Date: 9/11/08
Sign-ups start August 18th and run until September
10th. Space is limited.
Cost per child: $45 ($25 each additional family member). *Child must be a member.

Club Basketball-1 Boys Junior High team, 1 Boys
15 & under team, 1 Boys 18 & under team, and starting 1 Girls 13 & under team.
All teams will be competing against other Boys & Girls Clubs in the NH and MA
area. Tryouts begin the end of November.
Spring Leagues and Programs
Gymnastics

Indoor Soccer
Open to members grades 1st - 4th (*6 year old must be in 1st grade). Games will
be played SATURDAY from 9:15-1:00pm.
Leagues are as follows:
Collegiate League (Grades 1 & 2) play at 9:15am & 10:30pm
Professional League (Grades 3 & 4) play at 11:45pm & 1:00pm
*Each player is required to bring shin guards and also must wear sneakers for
play (Note: this is indoor, no cleats needed)
Cost per child is $45 ($25 per additional family member) - includes t-shirt
*Must also be a member of the Boys & Girls Club
*Space is limited
Arena Flag Football
Open to members grades 3rd - 6th.
Leagues are as follows:
3rd & 4th League - Monday night practices and Wednesday night games
5th & 6th League - Tuesday or Thursday night practices and games will be held
Saturday afternoons at 2:30pm and 3:45pm
*$45 per child ($25 per additional family member)
*All equipment is provided and child must be a member

SWIM TEAM
Our Rowell's Raiders Swim Club strives to provide a competitive, yet fun, environment
for our swimmers. Our goal is to develop young swimmers, so they will continue
to enjoy their swimming skills throughout their lifetime.
* Practice & Attendance Practice is held on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday
evenings. Swimmers 11 years and younger practice from 6 - 7pm and swimmers 12
years and older practice from 7 - 8:30pm. Swimmers are expected to attend practice
on a regular basis.
* Competition The SBGC Rowell's Raiders Swim Club competes in the Granite
State Swim Association summer league, and the New Hampshire Swim Association
winter League.
SWIM LESSONS
The Salem Boys & Girls Club strives to offer a quality swim lesson program that offers a variety of classes to meet the needs of children olf all ages and abilities.
Tot Lessons
Our tot lessons are designed to acclimate children to the aquatic environment, so that they can more easily learn to swim. Includes Goldfish, Tadpole, Polliwog and Guppy levels.
* Goldfish Designed for infants and small children. A parent/tot class. Focus in on water adjustment and fun.
* Tadpole Focus is on water adjustment and independent swimming with the use of a floatation device.
* Polliwog Introduction to crawl and back strokes, elementary back stroke, and underwater swimming. The child should be comfortable in the water and able to swim independently with a bubble in order to be signed up for this class.
* Guppy Progression of crawl and back strokes, elementary back stroke, introduction to breast stroke and butterfly and independent swimming without the use of a floatation device are the emphasis here.
Youth Lessons
* Beginner Focus is on water adjustment. Introduction to the crawl stroke, back float, prone float and treading water.
* Advanced Beginner Children must be able to swim crawl stroke, the pool width without the use of a floatation device in order to sign up for this class. Focus is on the progression of crawl stroke to include rotary breathing, backstroke, and increasing endurance. Introduction to diving.
* Intermediate Children must be able to swim 25 yards, crawl stroke with rotary breathing and 25 yards back stroke, without the use of a flotation device in order to sign up for this level. Focus is on increasing endurance in crawl and back strokes, elementary backstroke and breast stroke will be taught at this level.
Advanced Swimmer Children must be able to swim at least 50 yards crawl stroke, back stroke, elementary back stroke and breast stroke in order to sign up for this level. Emphasis is placed on increased endurance, butterfly, side stroke, dives and competitive turns.
FUN SWIM/OPEN SWIM We offer a variety of times for members, adults and families to use our pool for leisurely swims, fitness, fun and games. The pool is staffed with certifies life guards at all times.
* Fun Swim Offered daily, Monday though Friday at 4 PM for all club members. No fee is required.
* Adult Open/Lap Swim Adult swim is open to the public Monday through Friday 7:30-9:00 AM and 11:30 AM to1:00 PM during the school year only. This program does not run if Salem Schools are not in session due to snow days, teacher workshops, school vacations, etc. We offer this program for a nominal fee on a yearly basis, or for a daily fee of $5.00.
* Family Fun Swim Bring the whole family for just $5.00! (per family of 5, $1 additional for extras ) Offered Friday nights from 6-8 PM, this is an open swim for the whole family. May be cancelled on occasion due to scheduling conflicts, so please call ahead before you come.
Adult Workout
The Adult Workout program is designed for adults who want to get
and stay fit. For adults 18 and older, we offer the use of the
swimming pool, gymnasium, shower and locker room facilities.
Our adult swim program offers an Olympic-size indoor heated pool.
Lanes are set up to separate those swimmers who prefer to swim
in the "fast lane" from those who would just like to putter
around the water.
In our open gym, take a casual walk, jog, or play one wall
racquetball from 11:30 - 12:00p.m. Play basketball every day
from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.
The adult workout program is offered when Salem Schools are in
regular session. Times and fees are as follows:

11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Cost: $5.00 per visit or $250 per school calendar year

REGISTRATION, CANCELLATION AND FEE INFORMATION
* Registration for all programs is on a first come, first served basis.
* All fees are due at the time of registration and are Non-refundable, Non-transferable.
* All registrations myust be made in person, no registrations will be taken over the phone.
* Programs may be cancelled due to weather, club scheduling conflicts, school cancellations or problems with the pool.
No refunds will be given for cancelled classes. Participants may receive
a credit toward their next session in the event that a class is cancelled.
* In case of cancellation, we will make every effort to contact you by phone. If you are not sure, please call the club before coming in for your class.
* For swim team cancellations due to weather, a notice will be posted on Scarlette’s
voice mail at 603-898-7709 ext. 27, as well as on the team web site at www.eteamz.com/rowellraiders .
